SEXUAL VIOLENCE, A
NEW FORM OF WAR
Fondation Rama-Levina
The world today preaches love, mercy and justice for all but
unfortunately the realities that we are verging on, only to mention this sample,
are endlessly called discrimination, stigmatization and violence to women and
children especially in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC)
victim of almost everlasting wars.
In
Africa, just like everywhere else, women must be treated with a lot of respect;
they inspire protection and are not to be touched. But look here, the situation,
in the Eastern of Democratic Republic of Congo is the reverse order of things!
Women are defiled, their physical and morale integrity are trodden. The
everlasting wars in this part of the country make women not only widow,
household leaders, poor but also object of sexual violence committed without
scruple by armed men masters of hills in Kivu.
The current analysis of rape and sexual abuses in the East of the
DRC are alarming,
-
Woman victim
of sexual violence are soiled, dishonored, and stigmatized by their
surroundings,
-
More than 97%
of victims of sexual violence particularly in rural areas of the Eastern of DRC
affected by wars have their first medical aids 72 hours after these acts are
committed. This exposes completely to high risks of contamination of HIV and
STD.
-
Women and
girls victims of sexual abuses, rapes and sexual violence have nowhere to claim
their rights and call for justice be done
-
The innocent
children born from rapes are neither accepted nor integrated in the community!!!
A
word of founders
When a woman or a child falls victim of rape or
sexual violences, these acts have repercussions on the rest of their
lifes.
Henceforth families whose members were victims of
sexual violences experiment internal breaks, traumatisms, social
abandonment and STD/HIV-AIDS.
Girls and women victims are often considered as real
public dangers. The victim needs to be heard, supported and above all
not to be left alone.
The need and the strength to break this silence and
shame pushed us to act so as to restore the psycho-social rehabilitation
of these victims for their reinsertion and reintegration in their
respective communities.
This will contribute to their self acceptance. People like you and me suffer in silence
